Olematon is a story about friendship and individualism, experimenting with the form of the novel and focusing on solving the case of a missing friend.

A friendship is often the longest relationship in a person’s life. That holds true for Erika and Jonna, whose friendship has lasted for decades. One day, Jonna doesn’t show up for coffee and stops responding to messages, which is very unlike for it.

Erika is living the hectic day-to-day life of new motherhood, waiting to hear about a promotion, and planning a move to Brussels to be with her partner. But things don’t go as planned. What happened to Jonna? Why did it disappear?

Olematon (“nonexistent” or “non-being” in English) tells the story of Erika and Jonna’s friendship and of life in your thirties – a life that’s supposed to follow an upward trajectory. The book’s form gently challenges the reader and encourages them to read between the lines.

Olematon is Kukkakorpi’s second novel. Henkäyksiä was published in 2015 and that same year won the Möllärimestari Prize, awarded to self-published works. A revised edition of Henkäyksiä will also be released this autumn.

Both books are available to purchase from the online stores of Suomalainen Kirjakauppa and Adlibris.
